Assembling the Circuit board was easy. The most challenging part was constructing the forward and reverse pickup units. These are made with toroid coils and sections of coax. Although challenging, if you take your time and follow the directions, you will be successful.

I could build one, but the reputation of the Oak Hills Research WM-2 combined with its very reasonable cost, persuaded me to buy the kit. This is a VERY high quality kit. Upon unboxing all the components, I was very impressed.

Another great Indy Hamfest. Not as many outside flea market vendors as last year. The hamfest has been steady declining in the last few years. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I sold most of what I took, including the AOL CD’s that I have been dragging to hamfests for years. I was convinced that someone might want 280 AOL CD’s for a collection. I entered my SB-40 QRP radio in the homebrew contest and won first prize. I am now the proud owner of an Edsyn 951SXe soldering station. (A $155 value).

This is my uBitx ready for wiring. Due to the nature of how the case halves fit together, I decided to keep all components on the top half for easy wiring. This presented some challenges for placement of the headphone, keyer paddle and microphone jacks, but I think it will work. The speaker is from an old TV set. Although not yet added, I plan to have my call sign on the speaker grill in white paint. The last picture is the machining of the custom interior heat sink.
